NORTON began directing with a visceral black and white music video about a pair of possessed shoes. It got him the award for best unofficial music video at the 2013 Los Angeles Music Video Festival, and best director at the 2013 Ibiza Music Video Festival, grabbing the attention of L.A. production companies.
With a production company signing him in L.A., NORTON decided to quit his full-time job as a commercial video editor in New York and make the move to Hollywood. Since then he’s worked with artists such as Danny Brown, Purity Ring, St. Lucia, PAPA, Brooke Fraser, and Panic at the Disco! Inclusions in “best music promo” lists followed suit, on OnePointFour, Videostatic, and IMVDB.
Featured on MTV, Pitchfork, Promo News, and Noisey, his work also earned him a Vimeo Staff Pick for iconic rapper Danny Brown’s “25 Bucks.” At the end of 2014, PromoNews named him one of the top new directors of the year. In 2016, his commercial for Nike with Neymar Jr. was featured in the Shoot Online New Directors Showcase, along with a feature on SHOTS magazine and Editor’s Pick at Creativity Online and Little Black Box. Recently, the SXSW Film Festival recognized NORTON for his work in the Chris Lake music video “I Want You”. He’s since directed commercials for Google, Vodafone, Playboy Fragrances, and Danone and is currently developing feature film projects.
